What is the Bagua Map?

The Octagonal  Bagua Map is an elaborate mathematical representation of the universe based on the Macrocosm / Microcosm relationship to the compass directions. Ba means "eight," and Gua translates to "Trigram Divination." A Trigram is known as a Gua and comprises three lines composed of either yin energy (broken) lines or yang energy(solid) lines. The interrelationship of these lines has been the foundation of Chinese Philosophy for thousands of years, leading to a better comprehension of life and the universe. Trigrams are constructed from the bottom up, with the first line located at the bottom. Each line is numbered 1 to 3 and is known as the "Luck or Cosmic Trinity." The bottom line represents Earth luck, referring to the influences of our environment and how it interacts with our personal energy; the top line represents Heaven luck, our karma,  individualized fate and destiny, and the middle line, Man luck which interacts between heaven and earth, referring to things a man can control and freewill to experience and create ones own life path. This is where Feng Shui serves its greater purpose by providing us with ways to improve and enhance our lives and surroundings. The essence of Feng Shui is mastery over one's life.

Everything in our world, every material object, color, physical aspect, spiritual quality, season, etc., can be considered a part of one area of the Ba Gua. The concept of the Bagua is to identify eight different types of Qi. These energies all build upon each other and circulate clockwise throughout our built environments. Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui is heavily rooted in the Ba Gua. A number represents each Star or energy, and the Ba Gua reveals how the Qi within each sector interconnects. Information within the Ba Gua can provide a key determining occupants' problems and solutions to those problems.
